Wildlife Depth of Field – FAQ
Why does the app say “too close to focus”?
Every lens has a minimum focus distance. The app knows it for lenses in its database and will not pretend a closer distance works. Use the “Set distance” button to jump to the closest distance your lens can focus.
Why is the result “too soft” at a small aperture like f/22?
Diffraction softens the whole image at small apertures, more so on high-resolution sensors and with teleconverters or macro. When diffraction alone exceeds the chosen sharpness standard, nothing can be fully sharp – open the aperture or choose a less strict standard.
My lens or camera is not in the list.
Choose “Other / manual” and enter the focal length and sensor yourself. You can also suggest your gear by email – it is only added after checking the maker's official specifications.
How accurate are the results?
They come from an optical model calibrated with manufacturers' catalogue data – a reliable guide, not a laboratory measurement of your particular lens. Check your first frames at 100% in the field.
Does the app collect any data?
No. Everything stays on your device – see the privacy policy.
